Overview

The department of Surgical Gastroenterology comprises of the faculty members trained in premier institutes of the country in the field of Gastrointestinal Surgery. It has a special position and reputation in the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College as well as in the state of Rajasthan.

Year of establishment: 2013

The academic program is conducted for all the residents and the faculty of Gastrointestinal and the allied departments of General Surgery, General medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Medical Oncology, and Onco-Surgery.

Working pattern:

The department offers OPD services from 9 AM to 4 PM, 365 days 24 X 7 with emergency services for patients referred from outside and for all trauma patients related to Gastrointestinal surgery. The department has a dedicated Gastrointestinal Surgery ward comprising 20 beds along with multiple private room services and ICU for patients requiring treatment of all Gastrointestinal surgical diseases and cancers, and trauma related to the Gastrointestinal tract and Liver, Pancreas, Biliary system, and Spleen. The department has an advanced Laparoscopic unit running its operations daily with especially in areas of Bariatric surgery, Laparoscopic Whipple’s Pancreaticoduodenectomy, Laparoscopic colorectal, Laparoscopic Spleen and Esophageal surgeries.

Academic services:

• The department has been successfully conducting the MCh program in Surgical Gastroenterology since the year 2020 with an annual intake of two seats.
• The department is the first to start an MCh program in the discipline of Surgical Gastroenterology in the state of Rajasthan.
• The department has been regularly doing medical education programs and training surgeons in the various cities of Rajasthan for the last 10 years. The department also indulges in interdepartmental education programs, seminars, and training programs.
• We have successfully conducted JSF (Jaipur Surgical Festival –a yearly International CME conducted in December) twice starting in 2021.
