The Surgical Oncology department in Sri Ram Cancer Centre (SRCC) at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Hospital (MGMCH), Jaipur is a comprehensive facility offering a multitude of services that cover a large gamut of aliments. Complex cancer surgery crossing boundaries of organ specialisation including Head & Neck, Breast, Colorectal, Skin, Upper & Lower GI, Gynae, Hepatobiliary, Musculoskeletal, Genitourinary and Thoracic Oncology are being performed. Under the able guidance of our management, Dr. ML Swarankar, Chairperson Emeritus MGUMST & Dr. Vikas C Swarankar, Chairperson MGUMST, we have grown and are able to perform more than 150 major surgeries per month. All the patients that come to SRCC are discussed in a multidisciplinary tumour board with other services like Medical & Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear medicine, Oncopathology and treated accordingly.

A team of expert Surgical Oncologists performs laparoscopic & Thoracoscopic surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy, HIPEC and various complex cancer surgeries. We have a team of experts in the physical rehabilitation medicine department who look at prehabilitation and rehabilitation of cancer patients. We also have a nutrition and psychotherapy team for a holistic approach towards the patients. Additionally, we have a dedicated plastic surgery team which performs all our reconstruction. The department also runs preventive services and manages various post-treatment support groups to help the patients cope up with day-to-day challenges.

We have 3 MCh (Surgical Oncology) seats per year; the postgraduate students are trained in various aspects of oncology. We have regular academic activities like case discussion, journal club, grand rounds, subject seminar, faculty lecture, histopathology meet, radiology meet, tumor board, every week & daily skill development programme in the evening. Formal training and hands-on-experience with original scientific research, protocol and clinical trial development, manuscript preparation, and presentations at local, regional, and national forums are important components of the MCh training.
