Overview
The department of Biochemistry at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital yearns to facilitate the students in learning various aspects of bio-molecules including their structure, interaction among them, synthesis, degradation, transmission, expression and their behavior/action/modification in health and disease and also their diagnostic relevance. It also tries to explain ‘harmonious flow of molecules’ in human body and along with unraveling the turbulence in this flow during a disease state.
- Offers teaching in various University programs including MBBS, MD, M Sc (Medicine), Ph D (Medicine) and other allied courses.
- 5 Ph D scholars have been awarded degree in Ph D (Medicine) Biochemistry since 2016.
- 7 PG students from the department have been awarded Gold medals for their outstanding performance in University exams.
- All the courses offered by the department focus on competency/ employability/ Skill development.
- Teachers of the department are trained for development and delivery of e-content / e-courses/ video lectures/ demonstrations every year.
- Departmental Research Lab is well equipped for conducting various practicals and research work on techniques including ELISA, Chromatography, Electrophoresis and automated chemistry analyzer.
- Clinical lab of Biochemistry which is part of the Central Laboratory of MGH is NABL accredited, fully automated and round the clock lab with facilities for routine as well as special biochemical investigations including Hormones, Vitamins and drug assays.
- The department encourages research activity among its PG students and faculty members who often publish their papers in at national and international platforms. (Over 41publications in last 5 years).
- Teachers are promoted to attend Faculty development program (FDP) regularly.
